PEP (Post-Exposure Prophylaxis):
In the past 72 hours, have you had sex without a condom or shared a needle with someone who has HIV or whose HIV status you don’t know? If so, you may be eligible to start PEP. Call the NYC PEP Hotline at (844) 3-PEPNYC (844-373-7692), or visit a NYC Sexual Health Clinic.

The GMHC Testing Center offers free, confidential testing for HIV, HCV, Syphilis, Chlamydia, and Gonorrhea; linkage to PrEP/PEP providers; and linkage to HIV medical care. Testing is limited to four times a year (every three months). Please allow 5 to 10 minutes to complete an intake form before seeing a test counselor.

GMHC’s Testing Center comes to you
(This service is temporarily suspended until further notice in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. Please reach out if you are interested in working with us in the future.)

We are able to provide free and confidential HIV tests off-site! For testing off-site, we use the INSTI HIV Rapid Antibody Test, which provides HIV test results within 2 minutes. If you are interested in GMHC's Testing Center providing HIV counseling and testing at your location, please reach out via email to Rob Vassilarakis, Off-Site Supervisor, at ( with details of your location, date/time of the event, and approximate number of attendees. In order to maintain confidentiality, we do require that a private space is available for testing.

About our HIV tests
Please be advised that for testing onsite, at GMHC, we use the Alere Determine HIV Rapid Test. The Alere Determine Rapid provides HIV test results in 20 minutes. To obtain a sample for testing, with Alere Determine, a GMHC counselor/phlebotomist will do a finger-stick (prick your finger with a lancet) to obtain a small sample of blood. If you have any questions about the Alere Determine HIV Rapid Test, please contact Andrew Frazier, On-Site Supervisor at or call us at (212) 367-1100. All services are confidential.
